What Stink Bugs Do & Why Henry County Properties Are Vulnerable
The brown marmorated stink bug (Halyomorpha halys) is a shield-shaped insect roughly half an inch to five-eighths of an inch long, mottled brown with banded antennae and alternating light-and-dark markings along the abdomen edge. It doesn’t bite, sting, or damage the structure of a building. What it does do is release a pungent defensive odor when threatened or crushed, which is exactly what happens when homeowners try to swat or vacuum them in large numbers.
Their overwintering behavior is what drives the fall invasion. As temperatures drop, stink bugs aggregate on south- and west-facing exterior walls, drawn by warmth retained in the siding. From there, they probe for any opening they can find: gaps around window frames, door thresholds, utility penetrations, and damaged soffit or attic vents. Once inside a wall void or attic, they go dormant until late winter, then re-emerge into living spaces as interior temperatures rise in early spring.
Our Stink Bug Control Approach
Our treatment strategy matches how stink bugs actually behave. Rather than defaulting to interior applications, we follow Integrated Pest Management (IPM) methodology, which means identifying specific entry points and behavior patterns before selecting a treatment. IPM prioritizes interventions that address the problem with the least chemical impact necessary.
Every service visit begins with a thorough exterior inspection to locate where stink bugs are aggregating and how they’re getting in. Sealing cracks, gaps around utility penetrations, and damaged screens is the first line of defense against overwintering pests. We pair that exclusion work with exterior perimeter treatment timed to late summer or early fall, before stink bugs begin moving indoors. For customers who want reduced-chemical options, we offer a range of organic treatment alternatives. Regular follow-up visits help keep protection current as conditions change through the season.
-
InspectionOur service starts with a detailed inspection of both the interior and exterior of your house. During our inspection, we look for conducive conditions, such as moisture, pest activity, entry points, and more. We inspect many areas of your house, including interior rooms, plumbing fixtures, the foundation, landscape beds, and more so that we can provide you with the most effective service.
-
TreatmentsOur treatments are designed to get rid of the pests that are already active in and around your house, as well as to prevent new pests from making their way inside. If an interior application is needed, we will provide one, but we try to stick with exterior treatments when possible to avoid product usage inside your house. We will do a full perimeter treatment, remove webs, and place bait stations outside.

Follow-Up
Our follow-up services are done every 90 days. We will service and charge on a quarterly basis. This allows you to receive year-round services for the protection of your home.
During our follow-up services, we’ll perform many of the same services as during our initial treatment. We’ll also address any new issues that have popped up so that they can be taken care of before they become a serious problem.
